The Parks and Environment Department is responsible for the city's green spaces, roadside vegetation, and trees in the state capital of Mainz. Our tasks also include environmental planning, nature conservation, landscape management, environmental regulation, and the planning and maintenance of fountains, green spaces, and playgrounds.

Roads, footpaths, and bike paths are not the responsibility of the Parks and Environment Department, but are managed by the Road Operations Department at the City Planning Office.

The respective owners are responsible for vegetation growing on private property. However, vegetation growing on municipal green spaces can be reported to us.

Urban green spaces are mowed or trimmed at regular intervals from spring to fall by our employees or by contracted companies.

The Parks and Environment Department is not permitted to take action on private property. Similarly, we are not permitted to issue reports on diseased trees or pest infestations, as this would put us, as a public institution, in competition with private companies.

If you notice any of the above problems, please contact a suitable specialist company for gardening, tree care, or pest control.

Please report the exact location of the tree to us via our online service, by phone, or by email. If possible, please provide us with the tree number, which is indicated on a round plaque located approximately 2.5 meters above the ground. Our tree maintenance team will respond as quickly as possible.

Trees and their overgrown branches, rampant hedges, boundary distances... these are issues that often lead to disagreements in the neighborhood. However, the Parks and Environment Department has no authority to take action in these cases.

If the issue concerns neighborhood disputes or damage to property (trees, bushes, etc.), you must take action under private law.
