If you wish to relocate your company's place of business within the jurisdiction of the municipality that has been responsible for it up to now, you must re-register your business. The same applies if you change the location of your place of business or the location of a branch office or dependent branch. The local trade or public order office is responsible for this.

The following are exempt from business re-registration:

• Primary production (livestock farming, agriculture, hunting, forestry, and fishing)
• Liberal professions  
• Management of own assets

If you change your business activity, you must also re-register your business. This is the case, for example, if you intend to offer goods or services in your business that are not customary for your registered business, either exclusively or in addition to your existing business.

In addition, you must re-register your business if your name as a business owner or the name of the legal entity as a business owner changes.

If there is a change in business activity, it is necessary to re-register not only in the permanent trade but also in the itinerant trade.

The re-registration must be carried out by the following persons or their authorized representatives:

• in the case of sole proprietorships, by the business owner themselves,
• for legal entities, such as limited liability companies (GmbH) and stock corporations (AG), by the legal representatives 

In the case of partnerships, for example, general partnerships (OHG), limited partnerships (KG), civil law partnerships (GbR), limited liability companies & limited partnerships (GmbH & Co. KG), all partners authorized to manage the business must re-register their businesses.

If you relocate your place of business to another municipality, you must first deregister your business at the previous location and then re-register it at the new location. This is not a change of registration.

• In person: immediately
• If you re-register in writing or electronically, you will receive confirmation of receipt of your re-registration within 3 days, provided that the re-registration form has been completed correctly and in full and the necessary documents are available.

Required documents:

• Printed and completed business registration form
• Copy of identity card or residence permit for non-EU citizens (front and back) or copy of passport together with current registration certificate (not older than three months)

For skilled trades:

• Proof of registration in the trade register

For registered companies:

• Printed and completed business registration form
• Copy of the identity cards of the management
• Copy of the commercial register entry

For dependent branches:

• Printed and completed business registration form
• Copy of the identity cards of the management
• Copy of the commercial register entry for the main branch (if registered with the local court)
• Business registration of the main branch

For representation of the business owner or managing director:

• Written power of attorney
• Original ID card of the person granting power of attorney
• Original ID of the person acting on behalf of the principal
• One copy (front and back) of the identity card or residence permit for non-EU citizens

Note: Driver's licenses, health insurance cards, or similar documents are not sufficient and will not be accepted. You must present an identity card, residence permit, or passport in conjunction with a registration certificate!

The costs are based on the respective administrative fee regulations of the state and on the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under state law.
