Ginsheim Rhine Boat Mill

For several centuries, ship mills operated on the Rhine River off Ginsheim. Up to 21 of these small floating grain processing businesses were anchored there at the same time before they had to give way to emerging industrialization and growing shipping traffic. Today, the authentic reconstruction of the last productive Rhine ship mill offers interesting and exciting insights into the technology and working conditions of bygone times. The Verein Historische Rheinschiffsmühle Ginsheim e.V. (Ginsheim Historical Rhine Ship Mill Association) has set itself the task of preserving this extraordinary part of industrial, working, and social culture.
