"ChiK - Equal opportunities in child day care

"ChiK - equal opportunities in child day care" is a child day care service in Mainz.

Childminders who offer childcare places within the framework of "ChiK" receive a lump sum payment of the subsidy, which is based on the agreed and approved childcare hours. Unlike the regular subsidy of €6, which is calculated per child on an hourly basis, the subsidy for "ChiK" is calculated as a lump sum. Since "ChiK" excludes private law co-payments by parents to daycare providers, families only pay the flat-rate parental contribution, as they would at a daycare center.

The no-additional-payment childcare places ensure long-term security and improved utilization of daycare places. Childcare thus becomes a form of care that can be used by families of all income groups.

The flat-rate payment of the subsidy has the advantage for childminders that they receive a regular monthly amount, which provides them with financial security. If places are temporarily unoccupied, childminders receive a so-called "free place allowance," which is intended to cushion the impact of a place not being occupied.

The placement of childcare places offered through "ChiK" continues to be handled by the Office for Youth and Family Affairs. Childminders continue to work independently in their role as childcare providers and set their own opening hours, educational concept, and other contractual conditions, such as meal and diaper allowances.

Further information is available in the information guide on childcare, which can be found under "Information sheets" in the section on childcare, advice, and formalities.
