Mainz customs and inland port - a new urban quarter is being created
The former customs and inland port is currently being transformed into a new urban quarter.
To this end, the former container handling facility has already been relocated to a new container terminal north of the Kaiserbrücke bridge, the harbor railway tracks have been renewed, and the development of the Ingelheimer Aue has been modified. Since then, the way has been clear for the development of an urban district for approximately 2,500 residents and approximately 4,000 jobs. Mainz Neustadt is being expanded along a length of approximately 1.2 km along the Rhine. The "New City Quarter Customs and Inland Port (N 84)" development plan has been legally binding since June 2015.
Development is progressing rapidly. To ensure architectural quality, instruments such as competitive bidding procedures and subsequent support for investors by a quality council have been established. This will ensure that the quality characteristics from the competition are maintained in the further planning and implementation process.
In the southern part of the planning area and along Rheinallee in particular, a large number of building plots have already been developed and occupied. The design of open spaces is also progressing. The "Steinerne Ufer" (stone shore) on the south pier has been completed and the competition for the "Grünufer" (green shore) on the north pier has been concluded.
Further competitions for the architectural design of the building sites will follow in the future.
Additional information is available on the Zollhafen Mainz GmbH & Co. KG website, including a daily update on the construction progress in the southern half of the planning area via a webcam.
