You must deregister a dog if:

• the dog has died;
• you have given the dog to someone else;
• you have taken the dog to an animal shelter;
• the dog has run away and you do not expect it to return.

You must deregister the dog and return the dog license tag to the appropriate authority.

The deregistration must take place immediately upon termination of dog ownership.

In principle, however, the dog license tag must be returned when deregistering.
