The guardianship authority advises citizens on guardianship law issues and arranges alternative assistance. In addition, it supports the guardianship court in legal proceedings and proposes a suitable guardian, provided that the requirements of Section 1814 of the German Civil Code (BGB) are met. Furthermore, the guardianship authority (main authority) is responsible for registering professional guardians, provided that they have their place of residence or, alternatively, their office in the city of Mainz, the state capital.
