The dispatch center is one of the "heart" of the fire department. This is where all emergency calls made to 112 from the city of Mainz and the districts of Mainz-Bingen and Alzey-Worms are received. At one of the six computer-assisted workstations, specially trained members of the professional fire department receive and dispatch requests for assistance. Depending on the nature of the emergency, control center staff in the fire protection and technical assistance divisions dispatch the fire department to the scene. Medical emergencies, such as heart attacks, respiratory distress, or strokes, are also recorded here and forwarded to the emergency medical services.

Each year, the control center handles over 110,000 incoming emergency calls and approximately 25,000 emergency medical service calls, as well as calls for fire protection or technical assistance. In addition, there are a large number of calls where the requests for help do not require the fire department or emergency medical services to respond, but do require telephone support and assistance from control center staff.
