Ten districts in Mainz have municipal "children's, youth, and cultural centers," and there are also other facilities for children and young people.

Children, young people, and young adults can spend their free time at these facilities, pursue a wide variety of interests, and receive support from trained educators. They have the opportunity to seek advice on their concerns and needs, discuss any issues that are on their minds, or get help with school problems, homework, or career choices. Many elementary schools in Mainz offer after-school care for students in addition to regular school hours. These programs are usually organized by the respective elementary schools' booster clubs.
