A residence permit may be granted for a temporary stay if urgent humanitarian or personal reasons or significant interests of the Federal Republic of Germany require the person to remain in the
country for a further temporary period. Anyone who is required to leave the country may be granted a residence permit if their departure is impossible for legal or factual reasons and the removal of these obstacles is not expected in the foreseeable future.
A residence permit on humanitarian grounds pursuant to Section 25 (5) of the Residence Act may only be granted if the foreigner is prevented from leaving the country through no fault of their own. Personal fault is generally deemed to exist if someone provides false information or misrepresents their identity or nationality, or fails to meet reasonable requirements for removing the obstacles to their departure.

• Valid passport (not required for recognized refugees or persons entitled to subsidiary protection)
• Proof of health insurance
• Rental agreement (proof of sufficient living space)
• 1 biometric passport photo

• 100 euros for a validity period of up to one year
• 110 euros for a period of validity of more than one year
• 80 euros for an extension of an existing residence permit
