Welcome to Department VIII – Construction, Monument Preservation, and Historical Heritage of the State Capital of Mainz!

The department's responsibilities in the area of construction include urban planning, building maintenance, and municipal building construction – in particular the construction of schools and daycare centers – as well as responsibility for the building authority.

The preservation of historical monuments division is dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the city's cultural monuments. A particular focus is placed on the city's Roman heritage, its enhancement, and its communication to the public. This is directly linked to the field of historical heritage, which includes the city archives and other topics related to the city's history.

In addition, the department is responsible for the city's museums and the major project to rebuild and modernize the Gutenberg Museum. There are close content-related and structural interfaces between the areas of construction, monument preservation, and historical heritage in numerous subject areas. The department team and the

specialist offices are available to answer any questions and respond to suggestions.
