The City Planning Office’s range of responsibilities is very diverse, extending from citywide and subregional urban planning and transportation concepts, plans, and strategies to concrete on-site implementation—such as the design of public squares— the organization of traffic, including signage, as well as the maintenance of roads and civil engineering structures. 

Due to the different areas of expertise, the City Planning Office is organizationally assigned to two departments: While traditional urban planning tasks are consolidated in Department VIII, “Construction, Historic Preservation, and Historical Heritage,” issues related to mobility and transportation are handled by Department V, “Environment and Mobility.” 

This structure enables close interdisciplinary collaboration and thus a targeted approach to complex planning and mobility issues.
