"It's all about wine location"
The prize for the Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award 2024 in the "National Accommodation" category goes to the Weinzuhause wine hotel. The jury was impressed by the unique combination of wine, cuisine and accommodation.
When it comes to real estate, the three key qualities are location, location, location! This is even more true for wine hotels, and the Weinzuhause boutique wine hotel easily meets this requirement! It is located in the middle of a vineyard, right next to a winery, and also offers a magnificent view. But location isn't everything!
Why do guests come to this chic 4-star hotel in the countryside? "Our guests particularly appreciate the fact that we take care of them individually and make them feel at home!" says young hotelier Thomas Wild, based on feedback from visitors. The name of the hotel says it all.
Stefanie Wild (née Becker), the daughter of a winegrower from Rheinhessen, and Thomas Wild from the Palatinate met during their training at the hotel management school in the Palatinate. After working in international hotels, they planned their big move with Stefanie's parents and brother: a visionary triad of winery, hotel, and restaurant—completely redesigned on the outskirts of Mommenheim, in the middle of the vineyard. In 2022, the complex, built to be as sustainable as possible according to the latest findings, opened its doors. "The winery and hotel are completely climate-neutral. Thanks to the solar panels on the roof and a combined heat and power plant, we are energy self-sufficient!" explains senior partner Rainer Becker with visible pride.
His son Tobias Becker is the winemaker – the typical Rheinhessen grape variety mix is grown on 21 hectares of vineyards, mainly white wine. In addition to Riesling, the Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are particularly impressive, as are Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The guided tours of the winery with wine tasting are especially popular. The Beckers like to surprise their guests with Scheurebe, a grape variety originating in Rheinhessen, and the story of its breeder.
The wines are marketed directly to private customers via the hotel restaurant: when you enter the modern building to check in, you will see the wine shop right next to the reception – an enticing welcome. Of course, the complete range of wines can also be found on the restaurant's wine list. The regional, seasonally changing menu with freshly prepared dishes and Asian surprises is perfectly matched to the wines.
The theme of wine and the natural environment is extensively reflected in the hotel and its outdoor facilities: the 20 rooms are named after vineyards such as Osterberg, Silbergrube, and Hohberg. Barrique barrels are used as decoration on the terrace, and the striking metal struts on the façade are reminiscent of metal "vineyard stakes" that hold the wire frames in the vineyard. In the secluded "private Hildegard von Bingen garden," guests can enjoy the herbal scent of the vineyard.
The wine family's program of events delights guests with many creative ideas: outdoor yoga and a matching Ayurveda dinner, a 4-course dinner in the lavender field, the popular kitchen party, or the school enrollment lunch for families with children. This popular destination is particularly suitable for private celebrations.
The feel-good atmosphere throughout the hotel is reminiscent of a cozy, modern home. Particularly impressive: in addition to the quality of the wines and food, the hotel team's attentiveness to guests is a top priority: hospitality at its best!
The Weinzuhause wine hotel has won the Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award 2024 in the "National Accommodation" category. The jury was impressed by the unique combination of wine, cuisine, and accommodation.
