The department develops and designs social services in the state capital of Mainz. It advises the administration and politicians, reviews existing services and creates new ones where necessary. In doing so, it involves those affected, support organizations, associations and self-help groups. The "Living in old age" and "Social and educational planning" teams are responsible for this.
